It got its name from the legend associated with the guards of the Tower (today's fortress, where the crown jewels of the British royal family are kept), who are nicknamed "Beefeaters". As these guardians are a great tradition of London, as well as Beefeater gin, their symbol is depicted on every bottle of Beefeater gin. Beefeater gin is still produced according to the original recipe from the 1870s at the Beefeater Distillery under the supervision of the experienced Master Distiller, Desmond Payne.
