Glenmorangie Barrel Select Release Palo Cortado is the latest addition to the successful Barrel Select Release range. Deeply sweet single malt whiskey with notes of nuts, aged for a total of 12 years and bottled in a small batch. It is the first whiskey from the distillery's portfolio to ever mature in hard-to-find casks after Palo Cortado sherry. It spent the first 8 years resting in bourbon barrels. Upon tasting it, Dr Bill Lumsden was captivated by its silkiness and decided to age it for a further 4 years in Palo Cortado sherry casks - never before used in whiskey making at Glenmorangie. Palo Cortado is a rare type of sherry that is created by mere chance when the original flor of yeast on the surface of the sherry soon dies and it continues to mature oxidatively. This resulted in an exceptionally complex whiskey with dominant nutty tones and further evoking plums, milk chocolate, Brazil nuts and sweet spices.
