Product description

Ardbeg Smoketrails Single Malt Scotch Whisky Napa Valley Edition is the third release in the Smoketrails Collection travel collection and the first time in Ardbeg's history that it has used the influence of Cabernet Sauvignon red wine casks from California's Napa Valley. The result is a distinctive and richly layered whisky that combines the typical smokiness of the Islay style with elegant red wine tones.

Characteristics:

Region: Islay.

Maturation: A combination of Cabernet Sauvignon and bourbon casks.

Tasting profile:

Nose: Typical Ardbeg peat smoke, intertwined with notes of blackcurrant, sour cherry and oak spice.

Taste: Intense and oily texture, combining dark fruit, light tannins, smoke, licorice, and dark chocolate.

Finish: Long, dry, smoky-fruity with a subtle wine sweetness.

The combination of the peaty character of the Isle of Islay with the fruity profile of Californian Cabernet Sauvignon results in an unusual and collectible single malt that will appeal to both Ardbeg fans and lovers of experimental maturation.

History:

Founded in 1815 by John Macdougal, Ardbeg has a rich history that dates back to the days when Celtic monks sought refuge on the island from the raids of the Norsemen. Characterised by its wild nature and untamed shores, Islay offers ideal conditions for the production of a unique whisky - an abundance of soft water, fertile soil and peat that gives the local whisky its distinctive profile.

Ardbeg is not just the name of a distillery, but a symbol of the tradition, quality and unshakeable spirit that has defined Islay, Scotland for over two centuries. Recognised globally for its excellence and awarded many times in prestigious competitions, Ardbeg stands at the cutting edge of whisky production and is considered one of the most perfect whiskies in the world.

In 2021, a unique 1975 cask was sold for a record £16 million, marking an extraordinary milestone in the distillery's history. In keeping with the distillery's tradition of social responsibility and heritage, £1 million of this was donated to community projects on Islay, highlighting Ardbeg's commitment to its community.
