Teeda Rum 21Y is an exceptional Japanese rum from Okinawa that stands out for its genuine 21-year aging, limited number of bottles, and distinctive island character. This rum was distilled in 1998 from local sugarcane molasses and bottled by the third generation of the Matsuda family. It was aged in new American oak barrels and released as a limited edition of just 2,500 numbered bottles.
As the southernmost part of Japan, Okinawa offers a subtropical climate, mineral-rich soil, and conditions ideal for growing sugarcane. It is precisely these conditions that give Teeda rum its delicate minerality, slight saltiness, and unique style, which sets it apart from ordinary molasses rums. The result is an elegant, mature, and long-finishing rum that will delight connoisseurs and collectors alike.
Tasting Profile:
Color: Mahogany.
Aroma: Delicate and refined, with notes of licorice.
Taste: Beautifully persistent and straightforward, with notes of chocolate and a subtle hint of vanilla.
Conclusion: Long-lasting and smooth despite its 48% alcohol content.
Serving:
We recommend enjoying Teeda Rum 21Y neat, at room temperature or slightly chilled, which best highlights its depth, structure, and subtle elegance.
About the Helios Distillery:
The Helios Distillery was founded in Okinawa in 1961 by Tadashi Matsuda. It is Japan’s oldest rum distillery. Production originally began to meet the demand of American military personnel stationed in Okinawa at the time. Helios specializes in rums made from the molasses of local sugarcane, which undergo a long fermentation and distillation process in copper stills.
The Helios style is characterized by purity, the absence of added sugar, and a distinctive yet elegant character. The Matsuda family has been dedicated to rum production for several generations, and the Teeda brand is among its most distinctive aged rums.
