Bohemia Demi Sec is a popular quality sparkling wine produced using traditional methods in Starý Plzenec. With a delicately semi-sweet profile and harmonious taste, this sparkling wine is balanced and fresh with long-lasting bubbles. Ideal for everyday celebrations and special occasions.
Characteristics and tasting notes:
Taste: A semi-sweet sparkling wine with balanced acidity, offering a medium-full body with delicate floral tones and fresh fruit nuances.
Aroma: Floral and fresh, with hints of ripe strawberries and other red fruits, complemented by citrus and white floral tones.
Production process:
Bohemia Demi Sec is made from carefully selected white wines, which are blended into a base cuvée according to an original recipe. In the traditional method, tirage liqueur and yeast are added to the cuvée for secondary fermentation in the bottle, creating the characteristic bubbles. The sparkling wine matures on yeast lees for at least 9 to 36 months, which ensures its unique taste and aroma.
Serving and food pairing:
Its popularity is also growing in summer – on a hot summer afternoon, combined with ripe strawberries, Bohemia Sekt demi sec is the ultimate refreshment. No birthday party, graduation, wedding or New Year's Eve celebration is complete without the obligatory "Bohemka." It is part of major social events and is also served on board Czech Airlines flights.
About the Bohemia Sekt brand:
The roots of the Bohemia Sekt brand go back to 1942, when the first sparkling wine matured in cellars in the heart of the Czech wine region. Since then, the brand has earned an exceptional position - today it is one of the largest producers of sparkling wine in the Czech Republic and is responsible for more than half of all sparkling wine drunk in the Czech Republic.
How Bohemia Sekt is created:
The basis of a quality sparkling wine is always an honest still wine. The most common way to create sparkling wine is to blend several varieties to create a cuvée. Each variety brings its own specific aroma and flavour, which is then reflected in the character of the resulting sparkling wine.
To the cuvée is added a tirage liqueur - a mixture of wine and sugar - and yeast, which starts a process called secondary fermentation. The resulting mixture is bottled, sealed with a crown cap and the bottle slowly gives birth to bubbles. The yeast converts the sugar into alcohol and carbon dioxide is produced as a by-product. This is what gives the sparkling wine its delicate pearliness. This process takes five to six weeks.
The sparkling wine is then aged on the yeast lees - usually for 12 to 36 months, even longer for premium brands. During this time, its complexity and depth develop. Then comes remuage, when the bottles are gradually tilted neck down to allow the yeast lees to settle at the cork. The lees are then removed - a process known as degassing.
After decanting, the sparkling wine is topped up with expedition liqueur, closed with a cork stopper and secured with an agraffe - a typical wire basket.
