Pilsner Urquell is a Czech beer that has been produced since 1842. It is a light lager that is characterised by its high quality and characteristic hop aroma.
The beer consists of four basic ingredients: water, malt, hops and yeast. Malt is obtained from cereals, most commonly malted barley, and serves as a source of sugar for fermentation. Hops give beer its characteristic bitter taste and aroma. The yeast then converts the sugars into alcohol and carbon dioxide.
Pilsner Urquell is brewed according to traditional methods using a high proportion of hops and Czech malt. The beer has a light golden colour and a fine head. The aroma is fruity with light hop notes. There is a bitterness in the taste which gradually changes to sweetness and finally to a slightly caramel impression.
Pilsner Urquell has an alcohol content of 4,4 % by volume and is packaged in 0,33 litre glass bottles. It is recommended to serve the beer chilled to around 6 °C.
