Pilsner Urquell is an iconic Czech pale lager that gave rise to the world-famous pilsner beer style. The first batch was brewed in Pilsen on October 5, 1842 by Bavarian brewer Josef Groll. The combination of soft Pilsen water, Czech barley malt, and Žatec hops created a type of light, bottom-fermented beer that was entirely new at the time.

Pilsner Urquell is characterized by its typical golden color, thick head, and distinctive hoppy character. The aroma combines malty notes with a subtle hoppy character. The flavor starts off fresh and distinctly bitter, then develops a malty character with a slight hint of caramel. The result is a balanced beer with a characteristic bitterness and a clean finish.
Four basic ingredients are used in production: water, barley malt, hops, and brewer’s yeast. Traditional Czech hops play an important role, lending the beer its typical aroma and bitterness.
