Bobby’s Schiedam Jenever Gin is a Dutch jenever that combines traditional malt distillate with juniper and distinctive Indonesian spices. The spirit builds on the family legacy of Jacobus “Bobby” Alfons and represents a unique fusion of European distilling traditions with the flavors of Indonesia.
Production:
The base consists of 4% malt distillate, which brings a subtle bread-like, grainy, and nutty note. This is complemented by five botanical ingredients: juniper, lemongrass, ginger, cardamom, and cubeb pepper. The result is a clean, spicy, and layered jenever with no added sugar, extracts, or other additives.
Tasting Profile:
Color: Clear.
Nose: Subtle maltiness, juniper, candied ginger, lemongrass, and toasted almonds.
Palate: Oatmeal, fresh citrus, wheat bread, toasted hazelnuts, vanilla, juniper, cardamom, ginger, and cubeb pepper.
Finish: Medium-long, warm and spicy, with a tingling sharpness of pepper and ginger.
Bobby’s Jenever opens up gradually in the nose. At first, it seems more reserved, then a gentle maltiness, juniper, candied ginger, lemongrass, and roasted almonds develop.
The taste begins with notes of delicate oatmeal and fresh citrus. This is followed by soft wheat bread, roasted hazelnuts, and a hint of vanilla. Juniper, cardamom, and caramelized nuts are complemented by fiery ginger and spicy cubeb pepper, creating a warm and pleasantly tingling finish.
Serving:
Bobby’s Schiedam Jenever Gin can be served neat, slightly chilled, or on the rocks. It also works well in both traditional and modern cocktails, such as an alternative to whiskey in an Old Fashioned or in a refreshing long drink with ginger ale.
About the Bobby’s brand:
Bobby’s is a Dutch spirits brand inspired by the story of Jacobus “Bobby” Alfons, who was born in Indonesia and later lived in the Netherlands. His family recipe for Pinang Raci, based on aromatic herbs and spices, became the foundation for creating modern spirits that bridge East and West.
Bobby’s spirits are produced at the Herman Jansen distillery in Schiedam, the Netherlands. The descendants of Jacob Alfons have teamed up with the best in the industry to create a product of the highest quality. Herman Jansen is a traditional family-run jenever distillery that has been in operation since 1777. It is one of the oldest distilleries in the Netherlands, where seven generations have dedicated their lives to producing products rooted in authenticity and quality.
After approximately two years of development, Bobby’s Schiedam Dry Gin was launched in 2014. Bobby’s Jenever followed in 2016, combining traditional Dutch malt distillate with juniper and Indonesian botanicals. The portfolio was later expanded with additional limited-edition and spiced releases.
