Product description

Žufánek Sicily Mandarine is a distillate made from unique Sicilian organic mandarins that ripen on volcanic soil directly beneath Mount Etna. The strongly aromatic fruits from a family farm, grown without chemical sprays, give rise to a distinctive citrus distillate with a maximally authentic expression.

Production:

Žufánek Sicily Mandarine is part of the Geist series – it is a pure pot still distillate, with no added sugar, aromas, or filtration. It is distilled to preserve the maximum amount of essential oils from the mandarin peel and pulp.

Tasting profile:

Aroma: The aroma is dominated by intense, fresh mandarin aromatics with a slightly sweet, naturally fruity tone.

Taste: Dry, citrusy and juicy, with a slightly bitter aftertaste typical of high-quality citrus peel.

The distillate may be slightly cloudy in the glass, and small drops of precipitated essential oils may appear on the surface. This is not a defect, but proof that it has not been filtered. It is these oils that carry the fullness of the aroma and taste.

If they were filtered out, the result would be a neutral alcohol without character. Here, however, you get a full-bodied citrus distillate with the authentic expression of Sicilian organic mandarins.

Serving:

The recommended serving temperature is 12–18 °C to bring out the complex citrus aromas. Excessive cooling would suppress the delicate essential tones that make this distillate exceptional.

About the Žufánek distillery:

The family-owned distillery ŽUFÁNEK s.r.o. was founded in 2000 by Marcela and Josef Žufánek together with their sons Martin, Josef, and Jan. It is located in Boršice u Blatnice near Uherské Hradiště, at the foot of the Bílé Karpaty protected landscape area – a region with an ideal microclimate for growing fruit.

The basis of production is the distillery's own 15-hectare orchard, which is run according to organic farming principles. Eight varieties of plums (such as Čačanská, Stanley, and Anna Späth), Williams pears, greengages, and Oblačinská sour cherries are grown here. The orchards are also gradually being expanded to include aromatic and medicinal herbs, which are mainly used in the production of gins and absinthes.

The heart of the distillery is a modern distillery with four 300-liter distillation columns. In addition to traditional boilers from Destila Brno, the distillery also uses state-of-the-art technology from the German brand Arnold Holstein, which allows for maximum preservation of the aromatic substances and character of the distilled fruit.
