Product description

The Macallan Concept No. 1 is the first release in the Concept Series—a collection that connects whisky making with art, creativity, and the courage to break with convention. Inspired by surrealist art, this edition celebrates individuals who dared to disrupt traditional processes and bring a fresh perspective to the craft.

Created exclusively for Global Travel Retail, it represents a bolder and more imaginative approach to whisky maturation.

Maturation:

The Macallan Concept No. 1 was made from distillates that were first matured in sherry oak casks and then for the same period of time in bourbon casks. This process, where maturation is divided between two distinctly different types of casks, brings a complex and layered character. Sherry casks add depth, structure, and the sweetness of dried fruit, while bourbon casks contribute freshness, citrus notes, and subtle vanilla.

Tasting profile:

Color: Golden amber.

Aroma: Sweet butter caramels with almonds, ginger, and cinnamon. Notes of dried fruit, citrus, and a hint of green bananas.

Taste: Sweet oranges and lemons, subtle oak spice, fresh fruit and ginger.

Finish: Medium sweet, slightly drier, with a long finish of oak, citrus and spicy ginger.

Character of the edition:

The Macallan Concept No. 1 is a harmonious, modern single malt that shows that even a traditional distillery can experiment without compromising on quality. It combines the brand's classic signature—precise work with barrels and natural color—with a creative approach to maturation. The result is a limited edition with a distinctive character and collector's potential.

The Macallan Distillers Ltd.

The Macallan Distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, originally a teacher and barley grower, who leased land in Easter Elchies in 1819. The Macallan was one of the first Scottish distilleries to be officially licensed and has gradually built a reputation as one of the most prestigious single malt whisky brands in the world.

From the beginning, its character has been shaped by three key influences – Scotland, Spain, and North America. It is precisely this emphasis on the selection of raw materials and, above all, on maturation in carefully selected sherry casks from Spain that has become one of the pillars of this iconic brand's style. Merchant Roderick Kemp, who bought the distillery in 1892 and cemented its long-term association with sherry casks, also played an important role.

A legendary milestone was the 1926 cask, which was bottled after sixty years as The Macallan 1926 60 Years Old – one of the most sought-after whiskies of its time.

In 2018, the brand opened a new architecturally exceptional distillery designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, which combines modern technology with respect for the surrounding Speyside landscape. In 2024, the distillery celebrated 200 years since its founding – two centuries of craftsmanship, innovation, and exceptional quality that have defined the style of The Macallan.
