Royal Salute 21 Year Old The Peated Blend, also known as Lost Blend, is an exceptional 21-year-old blended Scotch whisky crafted from rare stocks of whisky from distilleries that no longer exist. At the very heart of the blend lies whisky from the Imperial Distillery, complemented, among other things, by peated malt from the now-defunct Caperdonich distillery. The result is a richer and smokier interpretation of the classic Royal Salute style.

Tasting Profile:

Nose: Balanced and complex, with notes of sweet oranges and peaches complemented by the aroma of smoldering embers and delicate smoke.

Taste: Juicy sweet pears, fresh hazelnuts, and toasted orange peel, intertwined with aromatic peaty smoke.

Royal Salute 21 Year Old The Peated Blend retains the fruity elegance typical of Royal Salute 21 Year Old, but adds a more pronounced malty and smoky dimension. According to Master Blender Sandy Hyslop, Imperial brings a fuller character, while the peated whisky from Caperdonich adds a harmonious smokiness to the blend, complemented by rich fruit and delicate spices.

Imperial Distillery and Caperdonich:

The Imperial Distillery was founded in 1897, the year of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. Although it existed for many decades, it produced whisky for only about 46 years in total. Its limited stocks thus represent a rare component of this blend today.

The uniqueness of this edition lies precisely in the use of whiskey from defunct distilleries, whose distillates can no longer be reproduced. Imperial forms the heart of the blend, while Caperdonich contributes its characteristic peaty note. Royal Salute therefore conceives this edition as a tribute to distilleries that have disappeared, but whose whiskey lives on in rare stocks.
