Product description
A.H. Riise Navy Naval Cadet is a distinctive blend from the Royal Danish Navy collection, created as a tribute to Danish naval traditions and future generations of naval officers. It was developed in collaboration with the Cadet Association at the Naval Academy, founded in 1701, and a portion of the proceeds from sales supports the association’s activities.
It is based on a carefully crafted blend from casks sourced from renowned distilleries in the Caribbean and Central America. The result is a full-bodied and complex spirit with an alcohol content of 42%, featuring a blend of sweet, fruity, herbal, and slightly balsamic notes.
Tasting Profile:
Color: A lustrous shade of rosewood with warm undertones.
Aroma: Licorice, orange peel, coconut, pronounced esters, mint, and overripe fruit.
Taste: Sweet, round, and bold, with notes of eucalyptus, mint, citrus, licorice, and balsamic tones.
Finish: Long and lingering, initially delicately fruity, then becoming more velvety with warm leathery notes.
The aroma features licorice, orange peel, coconut, pronounced esters, mint, and overripe fruit. The taste is sweet, round, and strong, with its richness balanced by fresh notes of eucalyptus and mint, citrus, and the slight bitterness of licorice and balsamic notes. The finish is long and gradually shifts from a delicate fruity character to more velvety and warm leathery notes.
Naval Tradition:
Naval Cadet pays tribute to the sailors who ensured peace in the former Danish West Indies, as well as to today’s cadets preparing for service at sea. Also linked to this naval tradition is the M/1848 cadet dagger, which has been part of the naval cadets’ uniform since 1848. Upon promotion to officer, it is traditionally replaced by a saber.
About the A.H. Riise brand:
A.H. Riise is a premium brand of rum blends inspired by the legacy of Danish pharmacist Albert Heinrich Riise, who worked on the island of Saint Thomas in the former Danish West Indies starting in 1838. The brand builds on the historical tradition of Caribbean spirits and focuses on rich, elegant, and distinctly aromatic blended products.
Interestingly, in 2025, the A.H. Riise brand was officially renamed Old St. Croix, a move the brand itself describes as a return to its original roots and historical name. As a result, you may encounter both the A.H. Riise label and the newer branding under the name Old St. Croix on the market today.
