Bacardi 8 Rye Cask is a limited-edition dark rum based on the popular Bacardi Reserva Ocho, taking its character a step further through aging in Kentucky rye whiskey barrels. The result is a rum with a richer, spicier, and slightly smoky profile that retains the smoothness typical of mature Bacardi rums.
Production:
This rare blend was created from rums aged 8 to 12 years in American oak barrels, which were then given an additional finish in rye whiskey barrels. It is this process that adds new layers of flavor and aroma to the rum without overshadowing its original elegant base.
Tasting Profile:
Aroma: Gingerbread, maple sugar, subtle spiciness.
Taste: Sweet, velvety, with notes of smoke, wood, white pepper, subtle vanilla, and caramelized brown sugar.
Finish: Smooth, full-bodied, and pleasantly spicy.
Bacardí 8 Rye Cask is a rum for those who enjoy a mature, smooth style with a more pronounced barrel influence. It combines sweetness, spiciness, and subtle smoke into a very harmonious whole.
About Bacardi:
February 4, 1862 marked the beginning of a new era for rum when Don Facundo Bacardi Massó purchased the first distillery in Santiago de Cuba for 3,500 pesos. With a vision to create a rum that would meet the demands of the growing middle class, he began experimenting with distillation techniques and raw materials. His innovations included the use of a special yeast strain, known as “La Levadura BACARDÍ,” which was selected for its ability to impart the rum’s characteristic flavor profile. This strain is still used today and forms the basis of BACARDÍ rum’s unique character.
Don Facundo Bacardí Massó developed a double-distillation method, combining aguardiente and redestilado to achieve a balance between robust and delicate profiles, which was revolutionary at the time. He was also a pioneer of charcoal filtration and targeted aging, which to this day form the core practices of Bacardí’s master blenders.
Seven generations of the Bacardí family have kept this innovative spirit alive, producing rums that are prized around the world. Bacardí boasts the title of the world’s most awarded rum and offers a wide range, from light rums for cocktails to dark aged rums.
