Gin 1689 is a classically styled gin with a modern twist, based on an authentic 17th-century recipe. It combines a traditional juniper base with more delicate botanicals, among which red quince and Pippin apples stand out. The result is an elegant and harmonious gin that captivates not only with its historical story but, above all, with its balanced flavor and distinctive aromatic profile.
Production:
The gin’s foundation is built on a pronounced juniper flavor, complemented by classic notes of lemon and orange peel, nutmeg, cloves, and anise. It is precisely the combination of traditional spicy and citrus ingredients with quince and apple that gives the gin a smoother, rounder, and slightly more modern character. Its profile also features subtle notes of bread and anise, which may be reminiscent of the genever style.
Tasting Profile:
Aroma: Floral, citrus, and anise.
Taste: Pronounced juniper, a light hint of bread, pine notes, cloves, nutmeg, and anise.
Finish: Smooth, rounded, and harmonious.
On the nose, Gin 1689 has a classic yet very appealing character—you’ll find floral, citrus, and anise notes. On the palate, the floral flavors blend with a light hint of bread, piney juniper, and delicate spices. The finish is rounded, smooth, and elegant, making this gin excellent both neat and in a classic gin and tonic or mixed cocktails.

Juniper berries, quince, Pippin apples, lemon peel, orange peel, nutmeg, cloves, anise.
About the 1689 Gin Brand:
1689 Gin is a brand inspired by the very origins of gin. Its story dates back to 1689, when William of Orange brought gin from the Netherlands to London and helped launch its immense popularity. The modern brand 1689 Gin carried on this legacy in 2016, when two friends from Amsterdam discovered one of the oldest surviving gin recipes in the Rare Books Department of the British Library.
After deciphering the historical recipe and in collaboration with a traditional distillery in Schiedam, 1689 London Dry Gin was created—a modern interpretation of the original gin with an emphasis on authenticity, tradition, and a finely crafted flavor profile. The brand thus combines historical heritage with the Dutch art of distillation, producing gins that draw on original botanicals and a compelling story. In addition to the classic London Dry, it also offers the Queen Mary pink edition, inspired by another historical recipe that was discovered.
