Product description

Gin 1689 Pink Gin is an original pink gin inspired by a historic recipe from 1689, discovered in the archives of the British Library. It builds on the story of the original gin, which was brought to Britain by William of Orange, and offers a fruitier interpretation featuring strawberries and raspberries. The result is an elegant gin with a distinctive juniper base, a subtle jam-like fruitiness, and a pleasantly dry finish.

Production:

The base is the classic 1689 gin, an English-style Dutch spirit that builds on the flavor of juniper and the notes typical of jenever. The Pink Gin edition expands on this recipe with natural strawberries and tart raspberries, which give the gin a pink hue and a juicier, fruitier profile. The botanicals are further complemented by red quince, Pippin apples, lemon and orange zest, nutmeg, anise, and cloves.

Tasting Profile:

Color: Pale pink.

Aroma: Juniper, strawberries, raspberries, and subtle spicy notes.

Taste: Fruity, slightly jam-like, with notes of strawberries, tart raspberries, juniper, and subtle spices.

Finish: Dry and smooth, with notes of juniper and pine.

Serving:

Gin 1689 Pink Gin will appeal to lovers of smoother, fruitier gins who are looking for something original, yet still elegant and well-balanced. It’s perfect for serving with tonic water, over ice, or in lighter summer cocktails.

Botanicals:

Juniper berries, quince, Pippin apples, lemon peel, orange peel, nutmeg, anise, cloves, strawberries, raspberries.

About the 1689 Gin Brand:

1689 Gin is a brand inspired by the very origins of gin. Its story dates back to 1689, when William of Orange brought gin from the Netherlands to London and helped launch its immense popularity. The modern brand 1689 Gin carried on this legacy in 2016, when two friends from Amsterdam discovered one of the oldest surviving gin recipes in the Rare Books Department of the British Library.

After deciphering the historical recipe and in collaboration with a traditional distillery in Schiedam, 1689 London Dry Gin was created—a modern interpretation of the original gin with an emphasis on authenticity, tradition, and a finely crafted flavor profile. The brand thus combines historical heritage with the Dutch art of distillation, producing gins that draw on original botanicals and a compelling story. In addition to the classic London Dry, it also offers the Queen Mary pink edition, inspired by another historical recipe that was discovered.
