Product description

Jameson Black Barrel is a reference to the traditional cooperage method of firing barrels, used to rejuvenate them and enhance the flavour of the whiskey. It is the maturation in a combination of American oak, sherry and bourbon casks that gives the whiskey its intense and complex flavour with notes of fruit, caramel and toasted wood, with notes of warm spice and sweet vanilla. The base for Black Barrel is a unique, sweet, triple-distilled grain whiskey made from pure barley. It is produced only once a year at the Jameson distillery in Midleton and then stored in double-fired bourbon barrels. Finally, a good proportion of traditional single pot still Irish whiskey is blended in to create an exceptionally rich and luxurious Black Barrel blend.

Jameson was born in 1780 by distiller John Jameson, who created his triple-distilled, smooth and perfectly balanced Irish whiskey. Today, we continue his tradition by ensuring that Jameson whiskey is still as perfect as the day John Jameson shipped the first cask. It's not easy, but we want to ensure that every sip of this whisky is worth it.

In the early 19th century, Jameson became Ireland's second largest whiskey producer, but two events struck the distillery in the early 20th century - the declaration of Prohibition in the US and Irish independence, which restricted exports to the British Empire. Jameson was one of four distilleries to survive this crisis and subsequently merged to form the Irish Distillers Group in 1966. In 1975, whisky production moved from the original Jameson distillery in Dublin to the new Midleton distillery in Cork. Today, Jameson is the best-selling Irish whiskey in the world.
