Ron Sostenible rum is produced in the most sustainable way possible. The distillery is one of the most modern and sustainable not only in the Dominican Republic but also in the world. All organic material and waste water from the fermentation process is used as fertiliser for the sugar cane fields. During fermentation, CO2 is produced, which is stored in pressure tanks and later used to produce soda water in the local soda factory.
The rum is based on fresh sugar cane juice, and the spirit is then aged for at least eight years in tropical climates in American oak bourbon barrels. It then rests for five months in Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks.
The finished rum is transported from the Dominican Republic to Europe by sea, by sailboat powered only by the wind. The bottles are made in Europe from recycled glass to reduce carbon emissions as much as possible. The label is made from sustainable paper and the cork is produced using a greener method without the use of glue.
Flavour profile:
A surprisingly aromatic, complex and perfectly balanced rum. The sherry casks give the rum a full yet subtle character. In the mouth, you will taste notes of figs, dates, raisins, vanilla, orange peel, caramel and oak.
