Eminente Gran Reserva Edition No 1 is a 10-year-old Cuban rum made from a blend of light rum and aguardiente (a spirit made from sugar cane, considered the soul of Cuban rums) aged in French oak barrels. Eminente Gran Reserva Edition No 1 contains 80% aguardiente and has an alcohol content of 43.5%. It can be enjoyed neat or over a large ice cube.
César Martí, the youngest rum master in the history of Cuba, is known for his experiments with the aging of aguardiente, which he stores in different environments and in different types of barrels. For his knowledge and experience, he is considered a rum oenologist. The first edition of Eminente Gran Reserva rum is the result of his latest experiment.
He created Eminente Gran Reserva Edition No 1 using 80% aguardiente, which he aged under specific conditions: in a dry cellar where water evaporates faster than alcohol.
The resulting blend of aguardiente and light rum is aged for at least ten years and then aged for three months in French oak barrels.
Aging in French oak barrels gives the rum complexity, but also a certain balance of flavor with notes of honey, sandalwood and orange blossom. Rum Eminente Gran Reserva is created in accordance with the traditions common in the very heart of the Cuban island, which the locals call "Isla del Cocodrilo" because of its unusual shape resembling a crocodile, whose homeland is Cuba. The sensory texture of the surface of the Eminente bottle and the crocodile-shaped island depicted on the label are a tribute to this endemic animal of Cuba.
Eminente Gran Reserva is one of the few Cuban rums sold outside of Cuba that has received the prestigious protected designation of origin “Denominación de Origen Protegida”, or “D.O.P. Ron de Cuba". This designation is granted by a regulatory body that sets strict rules to ensure the authenticity of Cuban rum.
Color: Vibrant mahogany color with red highlights.
Aroma: The initial aroma of freshly roasted coffee, red fruits and flowers alternate with notes of honey and vanilla with a pleasant, almost menthol freshness.
Taste: Harmonious, creamy and deep, with notes of fruit. Dried apricots and orange blossom dominate with a hint of sandalwood, hazelnut and allspice.
Finish: Long and silky aftertaste with spicy notes of Szechuan pepper and a subtle hint of caramel, pine sap and saffron.
