It all started in 1776 when the McConnell family from Belfast began selling their whisky to the public. It quickly became one of the most sought-after spirits in Ireland, and to meet the demand, the McConnells built a distillery: a sprawling, bustling site on the banks of the Lagan. For the next 154 years, they dedicated themselves to a single goal: making the best whisky in Ireland. Many whisky drinkers believed that they had achieved their goal and McConnell's became the most famous Irish whisky of the time.
But what about the “e”? Back in the 1900s, adding the 'e' was a way for Irish distillers to set themselves apart from the competition. However, McConnell's, already an iconic brand with 125 years of production history, decided to stick to tradition - no 'e' in whisky, Slainte!
Creamy, lemony, floral, fruity and smoky. This is the challenge that had to be overcome to create the perfect blend of McConnell's whisky. The perfect blend of malted barley and grain was carefully tried and tested to give the iconic brand a new finish. The special, hand-picked ex-bourbon casks in which the whisky is matured give it a delicate and subtle sweetness. The casks lend a deep oak note and light charcoal to the finish
