Kong Black is a limited-edition Panamanian rum that combines 12 years of aging with a subsequent finish in a second type of cask. It is first aged in American white oak bourbon barrels, then gains an additional layer of character during aging in port wine barrels. The result is a full-bodied and elegant rum with pronounced fruitiness, vanilla, and woody notes.

Aging:

The rum is aged for a total of 12 years, during which time it undergoes aging in two different types of barrels. The bourbon barrels contribute vanilla and woody notes, while the subsequent aging in port wine barrels adds fruitiness and a subtler wine-like sweetness. The “Double Cask” designation therefore does not mean 12 years in each type of barrel, but rather the use of two types of barrels throughout the entire aging process.

Tasting Profile:

Nose: Distinctive, with notes of brandy, vanilla, ripe fruit, and gently toasted wood.

Palate: Full-bodied and complex, with notes of red and dried fruit, caramelized nuts, oak, and subtle spices.

Finish: Drier, woody, and slightly mineral, with lingering spices and fruity notes.

The aroma features notes of vanilla, ripe fruit, and brandy, complemented by the character of the oak barrels. The Port wine adds another layer of fruit and a more delicate wine-like character to the final expression. The palate is full-bodied, with notes of red and dried fruit, nuts, spices, and wood, while the finish transitions into a drier, woodier aftertaste.

Another striking feature is the exclusive black bottle shaped like a gorilla’s head, which makes this rum an eye-catching gift and collector’s item.
