Ron Zacapa Centenario X.O. is distilled from fermented virgin sugar cane syrup. It ages according to the system Solera in 2.333 m height above sea in barrels made out of white oaks. Before Bourbon and Sherry Pedro Ximenez were aging in these. It contains a mix of rums at the age between 6 and 25 years with extra aging in French oak barrels. These contained Cognac before.
Zacapa is a town in eastern Guatemala, founded in 1876. Rum was named after 100th anniversary of the founding of the town in 1976. Early bottles of Zacapa took inspiration from a bottle covered with a petate – hand woven mat made from palm leaves. These come from the Mayan era and were made in Esquipulas not far from the borders with Honduras and El Salvador. Lately the bottles have a strip around their center.
It is a perfect balanced combination of sweet flavor, spices and fruit.
