About Amaretto:

Amaretto is an iconic Italian liqueur whose origins are shrouded in romantic legend. It dates back to 1525, when the painter Bernardino Luini, a pupil of Leonardo da Vinci himself, was working on the decoration of a church in the picturesque town of Saronno.

The model for his painting of the Madonna was a young, widowed innkeeper who, according to legend, became his muse and lover. Out of gratitude and affection, she gave him a bottle of brandy in which she had macerated apricot pits—a simple but sincere gift that would become the basis for the first Amaretto liqueur.
