Ron Cihuatán Xaman XO is a premium Salvadoran rum inspired by Mayan mythology and Xaman, the god of the North Star. It is an exceptionally aged edition from the Cihuatán brand, offering a total of 16 years of aging and a distinctive, complex character with fruity, spicy, woody, and slightly smoky notes.
Aging:
The rum is first aged for 15 years in American oak barrels previously used for bourbon. It then spends its final year aging in unique Ceiba Maya barrels, which add another layer of aromatic depth and distinctiveness to the final profile. The long aging process results in a rich structure and blends sweeter notes of ripe fruit with spices, wood, and unusual gourmet nuances.
Tasting Profile:
The tasting profile includes grilled pineapple, plums, cloves, leather, roasted balsamic vinegar, and bacon with paneló—a traditional unrefined cane sugar. The result is a layered rum with a striking contrast of sweet, spicy, smoky, and slightly salty notes.
Serving:
Ron Cihuatán Xaman XO is best enjoyed neat at room temperature, or with a few drops of water, which can help open up its complex aromatic profile.
About the Cihuatán Brand:
Cihuatán is a Salvadoran rum brand associated with a distillery founded in 2004, which is the first and only distillery of its kind in El Salvador. The brand draws inspiration from Mayan culture, local legends, and the region’s history. Individual editions therefore often bear names that reference deities, natural symbols, and stories from the indigenous civilizations of Central America.
