Aperol Barbieri is a famous Italian liqueur, which ranks among the spiced bitters. The liqueur captivates by its fruity, slightly bitter flavor and wonderful orange color evoking the sun, which is going down, and the red sky. The liqueur is made on the base of alcohol of gentian, rhubarb, extracts from oranges, aromatic herbs, and food colorings. Its uniqueness is hidden in very low alcohol content - only 11 %.
The liqueur was invented in an Italian family company of brothers Barbieri in Padua somewhere around 1919. In this year it was presented at the exhibition Fiera Campionaria di Padova. In 1993 the company F.lli Barbieri was bought by the company Barbero 1891, and this became a part of the group Campari in December 2003.
The best-known drink on the base of Aperol is Aperol Spritz. The drink was made in 1950s as a variation of Venetian spritzer (spritz veneto), which had been brought to Venice probably by Austrians in 19th century (Venice were part of Habsburg Monarchy in the first half of 19th century).
