Moko Rum 8Y is a matured rum that captivates with its full-bodied flavor, smoothness, and elegant aromatic profile. It ages for several years in Panama, where it develops its maturity and richness, and is then transported—at its full, natural alcohol content—to the cellars of Maison Peyrat. There, it rests for several months in oak barrels that were previously used to age cognac, which gives it greater body on the palate and an unmistakable elegance.
Honeyed and warm notes unfold in both the aroma and flavor, complemented by vanilla, oak, caramel, and maple syrup. The overall profile is pleasantly rounded and balanced, with a woody character, a subtle hint of macadamia nuts, and a peppery finish. The result is a rum that is smooth, rich, and yet very approachable.
Tasting Profile:
Aroma: Vanilla, oak, caramel, maple syrup.
Taste: Full-bodied, smooth, and balanced, with honeyed notes.
Finish: Woody notes, a hint of macadamia nuts, and a peppery finish.
Moko Rum 8Y is an excellent choice for lovers of smoother yet character-rich rums. It’s perfect for slow savoring and will be appreciated by anyone seeking the combination of Panamanian aging and an elegant finish in cognac barrels.
About the Moko Rum Brand:
The Moko Rum brand was established in 1869 by two brothers from Bordeaux, Ernest and Maurice Lasserre. When selecting rums from Martinique and Jamaica, they emphasized quality, tradition, and meticulously refined distillation and aging techniques. As a result, Moko rums quickly gained popularity and won numerous awards and medals.
Production and distribution of the brand ceased in the 1960s, but it was reborn in 2017. Philippe Peyrat, together with his children Clémence and Edouard—direct descendants of Ernest Lasserre—led the revival. Building on the family legacy and drawing on their experience with wines and spirits, they revitalized the Moko Rum brand with a modern approach that respects its historical roots.
