Product description

Dictador 2 Masters Pedro Ximénez Spínola 1976 is a 45-year-old Colombian rum from the prestigious Dictador 2 Masters series, which combines the Dictador brand’s long-standing rum tradition with the expertise of selected masters from other categories of fine spirits and wines. In this case, the 1976 vintage rum was paired with the Ximénez-Spínola winery from the Jerez de la Frontera region, known for its focus on the Pedro Ximénez variety.

Tasting Profile:

Aroma: Rich, mature, and woody. Notes of dark walnut, polished furniture, a subtle mossy impression, pistachios, Christmas cake, salted caramel, and gardenia emerge. Coffee, fig syrup, burnt cake, muscovado sugar, cigar leaves, caramelized hazelnuts, dark chocolate, licorice, overripe banana, rose notes, and polished exotic wood.

Taste: Full-bodied, creamy to oily, with a rich texture. The palate reveals a sweeter character, tropical fruit, dark chocolate, molasses caramel, and a hint of a spicier, slightly meaty complexity reminiscent of marinated and glazed meat.

Finish: Long, spicy, and warming. Notes of nutmeg, black pepper, warm spices, and a more perfumed, pleasantly cooling finish linger.

Production:

After finishing in whiskey barrels, this 45-year-old rum was sent to the hot south of Spain, where it aged for another 9 months in 50-year-old French oak barrels previously used for Pedro Ximénez wine. It is this final aging that gives it a deeper, sweetly fruity, spicy, and sherry-like character. The edition was bottled at 46.4% ABV and produced in a limited run of 390 bottles.

The Collaboration Between Dictador and the Ximénez-Spínola Winery:

The Ximénez-Spínola Winery is one of Jerez’s historic producers, with roots dating back to the early 18th century. It specializes exclusively in the Pedro Ximénez variety and focuses on limited production, proprietary methods, and an emphasis on quality. As part of the 2 Masters project, the result is not just a classic rum aged in a different type of cask, but a product that bridges the Colombian rum style with a distinctive Spanish winemaking tradition.

Behind the winery stands José Antonio Zarzana, winemaker and owner of Ximénez-Spínola, who builds on several generations of family experience with wine. His approach is rooted in hands-on work, family records, and long-term observation of the production of wines from the Pedro Ximénez variety.

The result is a distinctive signature that, in this edition, is reflected in the rum’s rich, deep, and elegantly matured character.

Dictador 2 Masters Pedro Ximénez Spínola 1976 is a rum for collectors and connoisseurs seeking an exceptionally matured spirit with a clear story of origin.

About the Dictador brand:

Dictador was born in Colombia, a country famous not only for its coffee but also for its ideal climate for rum maturation. The result is a rum that appeals to collectors, lovers of rare editions, and lovers of sophisticated flavors.

The Dictador brand draws inspiration from Sever Arangoy, nicknamed "El Dictador," a Spanish official who oversaw the rum trade in Cartagena de Indias, the commercial center of the Spanish colonial empire in the 18th century. The brand is named after him, and this is where the story of Dictador as a rum with authority began.

The modern era of Dictador began in 1913, when the family business of the same name was officially founded. Since then, Dictador rum has been produced with an emphasis on precision, craftsmanship, and long aging, now led by renowned master blender Hernan Parra, who is the third generation of the Parra rum family.
