Product description

This Guatemalan rum is aged in new charred American white oak barrels for 4 to 12 years. It is mellowed to 40% by the addition of premium coconut water. This blend contains tropical aromas of coconut with hints of banana, mango and vanilla. When tasted, notes of caramel, sandalwood and burnt brown sugar emerge, and of course coconut is also present. There is also a touch of minerality and a subtle saltiness from the coconut water. Production begins on a farm located in the volcanic zone of southern Guatemala, where sugar cane grows abundantly in this incredibly rich, mineral-laden soil. Guatemala is also known for its favourable climate, which is known as 'el país de la eterna primavera', 'the land of eternal spring', making it an ideal place for rum production.

The use of coconut water instead of pure water in the production process is completely unique and gives Coconut Cartel a truly distinctive taste and texture. The natural saltiness of the coconut water mutes the bitter notes of the tannins in the aged rum. The saltiness also enhances and brightens the fruity and floral notes of the rum. In addition, other minerals found in coconut water including calcium, magnesium and potassium contribute to the smooth mouthfeel and alluring viscosity. So while you might expect this so-called 'coconut rum' to taste sweet and very coconutty, you're actually embarking on a savoury experience that will make you curious and eager for another sip.
