Amaro Montenegro is a traditional Italian herbal liqueur, captivating with its rich history and unique flavour profile. Originally named Elisir Lungavita in 1885, this liqueur was renamed Amaro Montenegro in 1896 on the occasion of the marriage of Princess Elena of Montenegro to Italian Prince Vittorio Emanuele III.
Stanislao Cobianchi, the founder of Amaro Montenegro, rejected a predestined spiritual career in favour of the adventure that inspired him to create this exquisite liqueur.
Amaro Montenegro is made with 40 carefully selected herbs from around the world, including nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, orange, marjoram, oregano and coriander. These ingredients are chopped, mixed in water and then boiled to capture their essential properties. The combination of distillation, maceration and extraction ensures that Amaro Montenegro offers a rich and complex aroma.
Taste and aroma:
Amaro Montenegro has a slightly bitter finish with hints of tangerine and citrus, balanced by sweet and herbal flavours. Orange peel, red cherries and pekoe tea dominate the aroma, giving this liqueur its distinctive and unmistakable fragrance.
In Italy, Amaro Montenegro is popular both with coffee and as part of mixed drinks. The recommended temperature for serving and storage is 16-18°C. At temperatures below about 7°C, the liqueur may become slightly cloudy due to the precipitation of aromatic oils.
Amaro Montenegro is not only a liqueur full of virtues, as the Italian poet Gabriele d'Annuzio once said, but also a classic that will enrich any bar or evening with friends. Enjoy this historically rich and flavorfully exceptional Italian liqueur as a great accompaniment to a meal or relaxation.
