Hatozaki Malt is a sophisticated blend of 100% malt whiskeys that embodies the best of traditional Japanese craftsmanship. It is aged in bourbon, sherry, and rare Japanese mizunara oak barrels sourced from the forests of Hokkaido and Tohoku. The result is a perfectly balanced drink with a rich flavor profile and subtle complexity.
Characteristics:
Whisky Hatozaki Malt is blended from 5-6 year old single malts and produced exclusively in small batches of up to 20 barrels. It is not colored or cold filtered—its naturalness and purity are a priority. This whisky is exceptionally smooth yet full-bodied, non-smoky but with a slight undertone of peat smoke that makes it multi-layered.
Tasting profile:
Aroma and taste: Sweet notes of malted grains and dried fruit, with a subtle hint of smoke.
Finish: Long, smooth, with a honey finish that lingers on the palate.
Serving suggestion:
We recommend enjoying it neat or with a drop of water to bring out its more delicate nuances. It is the perfect accompaniment to traditional Japanese rice crackers, which enhance the dried fruit and subtle woodiness.
Hatozaki is the oldest active lighthouse in Japan and, like this whisky, symbolizes the light that guides you to true quality. With this bottle, you bring home a piece of Japanese tradition, precision, and elegance.
About the producer: Kaikyō Distillery:
Behind Hatozaki whisky is the Kaikyō distillery, which continues a century-old tradition of distilling spirits in the Yonezawa family in Japan. Its roots date back to 1917, when the original Akashi brewery specialized in the production of sake and shochu. A hundred years later, on the occasion of its centenary, master distiller Kimio Yonezawa decided to found the Kaikyō distillery to bring his vision of exceptional Japanese whisky and gin to life.
Kimio Yonezawa is a respected expert in his field – for more than 30 years, he has tirelessly explored the world of distillation, drawing inspiration from British traditions and combining them with a Japanese attention to detail.
Kaikyō Distillery is located on the coast of the inland Seto Sea, near the famous Akashi-Kaikyō Bridge, from which it takes its name. It benefits from a specific local climate with mild winters and hot, humid summers, which is ideal for maturing whisky.
