Product description

Nikka Rare Old Super is a classic Japanese blended whiskey that combines subtle fruitiness, a light peaty character, and notes of vanilla and sherry. It was created in 1962 as a personal tribute from Nikka’s founder, Masataka Taketsuru, to his late wife, Rita.

It was Rita who stood by his side when he decided to realize his dream of producing authentic whisky in Japan. Nikka Rare Old Super is therefore not only one of the brand’s most important whiskies, but also a symbol of their shared story, perseverance, and deep personal bond.

Tasting Profile:

Nose: Fruity and delicate, with hints of peat, vanilla, and sherry casks.

Palate: Fresh, fruity, and slightly tart, with a smooth texture, subtle smokiness, vanilla, and sherry character.

Finish: Rounded, balanced, and gently smoky.

Nikka Rare Old Super represents a traditional blended whiskey style with a smooth texture and a rounded flavor profile. Fruity notes are complemented by gentle smoke, vanilla, and the character of older sherry casks. The result is a harmonious whiskey that feels complex yet remains very approachable.

Serving:

It can be served neat, with a few drops of water, on the rocks, or in a classic Japanese Highball with soda. Thanks to its elegant bottle and gift packaging, it is also suitable as a gift for lovers of Japanese whiskey.

About the Nikka Brand:

Nikka Whisky is one of Japan’s leading whisky producers. The brand was founded by Masataka Taketsuru, who traveled to Scotland in the early 20th century to learn the art of making authentic Scotch whisky directly from the source. During his stay there, he also met his future wife, Rita, who later followed him to Japan.

Upon his return, Taketsuru began building the Japanese whisky industry based on Scottish production methods. In 1934, he founded the Yoichi distillery on the island of Hokkaido, whose cold climate and natural conditions reminded him of Scotland. Later, the Miyagikyo distillery was also established, producing a smoother and fruitier style of whisky.

Nikka today combines spirits from both distilleries and offers single malt whiskey, blended whiskey, and the distinctive Coffey Grain and Coffey Malt editions. A hallmark of the brand is the fusion of Scottish tradition, Japanese precision, and the careful blending of different whiskey styles.
