This 10-year-old whisky embodies a balanced combination of traditional Scottish quality and an innovative approach to whisky production. It is designed for those who appreciate complex flavour and a long-lasting experience.

Tasting Profile:

Colour: Golden honey, which is reminiscent of the rich, ripe notes that are characteristic of carefully aged whiskies.

Ballantine's Master Blender carefully selects and blends a variety of whiskies to achieve the precise and consistent flavour structure of Ballantine's 10Y. This process involves selecting from many casks and requires considerable patience and skill, making Ballantine's 10 an ideal choice for whisky lovers looking for depth and complexity.

Serving:

Ballantine's 10Y is perfect for slow enjoyment, whether on its own, with a splash of water or on the rocks. Its complex profile is perfect as an accompaniment to an evening of relaxation or to celebrate special occasions.

Ballantine's whisky making process:

Ballantine's whisky, like all whiskies, goes through several basic production steps that determine its final character and flavour. Here is a detailed guide to the process of making this important blended Scotch whisky.

Whisky making starts with three main ingredients:

  1. Grain: Mostly malted barley, but can also include corn, rye and wheat.
  2. Water: Pure, often obtained from natural sources near the distillery.
  3. Yeast: Essential to the fermentation process.
  • Malting: Barley is soaked in water to germinate. After a few days of germination, the process is stopped by drying in a kiln to produce malt.
  • Milling: The malt is then milled into grist, a coarse powder that is ready for further processing.
  • Rumbling: The grist is mixed with hot water in a mash tun, which allows the enzymes in the malt to convert the starches into sugars and create a sweet liquid called wort.
  • Fermentation: The wort is pumped into large fermentation vessels and yeast is added. Within a few days, the yeast converts the sugars into alcohol, producing a low-alcohol wash.
  • Distillation: The wash is distilled twice in copper pot stills, the first distillation taking place in the wash pot and the second in the still. This process concentrates the alcohol and removes unwanted substances.
  • Maturing: The distillate, now called new make spirit, is stored in oak barrels. During the years of maturation, chemical reactions occur between the wood and the spirit, giving the whisky its colour, flavour and aroma.
  • Blending: Blended whiskies, such as Ballantine's, are created by combining different single malts and grain whiskies. The master blender carefully selects and combines the different whiskies to achieve the desired flavour profile.
  • Bottling: The final product is bottled, with each bottle bearing Ballantine's iconic crest and motto "Amicus Humani Generis".

Each bottle of Ballantine's 10Y is the result of a dedication to quality and a passion for making great whisky, making it a popular choice for connoisseurs around the world.
