Metaxa 12* is an exceptional Greek spirit that combines delicate wine distillates, sweet muscat wine from the island of Samos, and carefully selected Mediterranean herbs. This version in a practical 0.05 L miniature bottle is the ideal way to sample the rich flavor of Metaxa in its premium form – whether for yourself, as a souvenir, or as a stylish addition to a gift.
Production:
The distillates are aged in medium- and heavily toasted oak barrels, which give the drink its smoky and oaky character. This aging process enhances its complex aromatic profile and creates a harmonious blend of spicy, fruity, and woody notes.
Tasting profile:
Color: Bright amber.
Aroma: Rich and multi-layered – orange peel, roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and burnt oak.
Taste: Elegant and balanced – dominated by dried fruit, orange peel, and subtle spices.
Finish: Long, warm and fragrant with lingering notes of orange and spice.
Serving:
Metaxa 12* deserves a special moment – ideally served neat, on ice or as a base for elegant cocktails. Its aromatic depth and delicate body make it perfect for celebrations and quiet evenings with friends.
Metaxa history:
The story of Metaxa begins in 1848, when Spyros Metaxa was born on the island of Euboea in Greece. From a young age, he showed a passion for adventure and innovation, which inspired him to create an entirely new type of drink.
At the age of 40 (1888), Spyros Metaxa realised his visionary idea and created the original Greek liqueur, which later acquired the name Metaxa. His aim was to create a liqueur that was both smooth and intense, offering a real journey through the senses. This drink quickly became popular not only in Greece but also in the rest of the world.
With its growing popularity and the need to expand production, Metaxa distillery moved from its original location in Piraeus to Kifissia, beginning a new era in the brand's history. This move allowed Metaxa to increase its production capacity and further develop its international presence.
At the turn of the millennium, specifically in 2000, Metaxa became part of the prestigious Remy Cointreau group. This merger brought further international expansion to the Metaxa brand and allowed for further innovation in production and marketing.
