Glenmorangie A Tale of Spices is a distinctly aromatic whisky born out of a fascination with the world of spices, fragrant markets, and unusual cask combinations. Dr. Bill Lumsden, together with Chief Master Blender Gillian Macdonald, wanted to create a whisky that would be literally infused with spices, so they had the Glenmorangie—originally aged in bourbon casks—mature in four different types of casks. The result is an extraordinarily complex, fragrant, and layered whisky with a rich, spicy character.
The final profile reflects:
The whiskey thus offers an elegant journey through a world of aromas and spices—from floral notes through sweet oak to the warming notes of ginger and pepper.
Tasting Profile:
Color: Mustard gold.
Nose: Spicy, sweet, and fragrant; rose, carnation, jasmine, lilac, cumin, saffron, nutmeg, ginger, chili, anise, delicate sweet oak, chestnut.
Taste: Hot spices, ginger, black pepper, mustard seeds, mint caramels, brown sugar, sugar-coated almonds, a distinct eucalyptus note.
Finish: Long, spicy, and aromatically warming.
Glenmorangie A Tale of Spices is a whisky for those seeking an unusual and richly spiced profile with beautiful aromatic depth. It offers a combination of floral notes, sweet smoothness, and bold spices that stands out from the usual style in the Glenmorangie portfolio.
About Glenmorangie Distillery:
The story of Glenmorangie begins in 1843, when farmer William Matheson and his wife Anne built a distillery in the Scottish Highlands in Ross-shire. At the time, he may have sold his whisky for just a shilling a gallon, but his vision was far-reaching. The whisky was named after the peaceful landscape he loved – Glenmorangie, which means "Valley of Peace" in Gaelic.
Matheson laid the foundations for what became one of the world's most famous and respected single malt whisky distilleries. For many years, it was led by Gordon L. Smart, distillery manager since 1920, and the legendary "16 men of Tain," who handcrafted whisky using time-honored methods.
Today, the distillery is run by Edward Thomas, winner of the Global Distillery Manager of the Year 2022 award at the Whisky Magazine Icons of Whisky Awards. Glenmorangie still employs 24 "Distillers of Tain" who continue the craftsmanship of previous generations.
A distinctive feature of Glenmorangie are the tallest stills in Scotland, as tall as a giraffe. It is thanks to this height that the distillate has more space to develop the delicate, fruity and elegant flavors that are typical of Glenmorangie.
The giraffe has thus become not only a symbol of the distillery, but also a symbol of responsibility. In 2020, Glenmorangie partnered with the Giraffe Conservation Foundation and the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland to help protect these endangered animals in the wild.
