The story of the Serrallés family began on the Hacienda Mercedita sugar plantation near the city of Ponce on the southern coast of Puerto Rico. In 1865, the son of Spanish immigrants, Don Juan Serrallés, produced the first few barrels of rum here in a copper still imported from France. Molasses for rum comes from the Dominican Republic and Guatemala. The artisanal art of aging in American white oak barrels and careful blending are the exclusive recipes of the Serrallés family, perfected through the efforts of six generations.
