Product description

The Dalmore Constellation 1981 Cask No. 4 is an exceptionally rare 30-year-old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the prestigious Constellation Collection. This collection features a selection of exceptional single casks from The Dalmore dating from 1964 to 1992 and is among the distillery’s most significant collector’s editions.

The whisky was distilled on November 24, 1981. It spent its first 26 years maturing in an American white oak cask, after which it was transferred to a cask previously used for Amoroso Oloroso sherry, where it spent another four years. It was bottled in 2012 at 30 years of age at a strength of 54% ABV. Only 787 bottles were produced from this cask No. 4.

Tasting Profile:

Color: Dark amber-gold with honey-colored highlights.

Aroma: Warm and complex, with notes of honeyed pear, milk chocolate, crushed almonds, citrus, bergamot, and ripe berries.

Taste: Rich and layered. Notes of cherries, plums, and mandarin orange emerge, followed by freshly baked bread, caramelized peaches, and apricots.

Finish: Long and lingering.

Extended aging yields a rich combination of honeyed fruit, chocolate, almonds, and citrus, which the sherry cask further develops toward darker fruit and caramelized notes.

Constellation Collection:

The Dalmore Constellation Collection was assembled from individual exceptional casks and traces several decades of the distillery’s history. This particular whiskey is one of two 30-year-old releases from the 1981 vintage and comes from cask No. 4. With only 787 bottles, it is a highly limited collector’s edition.

About The Dalmore Distillery:

The Dalmore Distillery is a Scottish single malt whisky distillery in the Highlands with a history dating back to 1839, when it was founded by Alexander Matheson. In 1867, descendants of the Mackenzie clan took over the distillery, and it is to them that the use of the iconic 12-pointed royal stag on the bottles is attributed, a symbol that references the clan’s ancient royal heritage.

The Dalmore is known for its robust and fruity spirit, which is designed from the outset to respond well to longer and more complex maturation. The brand is renowned for its emphasis on the careful selection of exceptional casks and its long-standing relationships with leading wineries and cellars, which result in rich and layered whiskies with a distinctive, luxurious style.

Today, master whisky maker Gregg Glass carries on the tradition of The Dalmore, while Richard Paterson remains the brand’s mentor. The Dalmore thus combines its historical heritage, precise work with casks, and an emphasis on the distinctive, elegant character of its whiskies.
