Glenmorangie The Lasanta 15Y is a Scottish single malt whisky created as a personal tribute to the sunset by Dr. Bill Lumsden, Director of Whisky Creation and an avid traveler. This edition follows on from the popular 12-year-old Lasanta, but with extended maturation in a combination of bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks, giving it an even richer, deeper and smoother profile.
Tasting profile:
Color: Reminiscent of rosewood.
Nose: The first sniff greets you with a complex aroma of mead, nuts, honeycomb, and woody depth. After adding a drop of water, the aroma develops into more delicate floral and fruity notes—carnation, flowering currants, chocolate raisins, and caramelized bread.
Taste: A spicy and warming taste unfolds in the mouth, with notes of caramelized Brazil nuts, molasses, dark chocolate, cinnamon, cloves, and undertones of oak and leather. All the flavors are beautifully intertwined, without any sharp edges, creating a smooth yet distinctive experience.
Finish: Long and lingering, with distinctive notes of Seville orange marmalade, dates, and sweet molasses, reminiscent of the last warm rays of the day.
About Glenmorangie Distillery:
The story of Glenmorangie begins in 1843, when farmer William Matheson and his wife Anne built a distillery in the Scottish Highlands in Ross-shire. At the time, he may have sold his whisky for just a shilling a gallon, but his vision was far-reaching. The whisky was named after the peaceful landscape he loved – Glenmorangie, which means "Valley of Peace" in Gaelic.
Matheson laid the foundations for what became one of the world's most famous and respected single malt whisky distilleries. For many years, it was led by Gordon L. Smart, distillery manager since 1920, and the legendary "16 men of Tain," who handcrafted whisky using time-honored methods.
Today, the distillery is run by Edward Thomas, winner of the Global Distillery Manager of the Year 2022 award at the Whisky Magazine Icons of Whisky Awards. Glenmorangie still employs 24 "Distillers of Tain" who continue the craftsmanship of previous generations.
A distinctive feature of Glenmorangie are the tallest stills in Scotland, as tall as a giraffe. It is thanks to this height that the distillate has more space to develop the delicate, fruity and elegant flavors that are typical of Glenmorangie.
The giraffe has thus become not only a symbol of the distillery, but also a symbol of responsibility. In 2020, Glenmorangie partnered with the Giraffe Conservation Foundation and the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland to help protect these endangered animals in the wild.
