Talisker 40 Year Old The Bodega Series No. 1 is an exceptionally rare Scottish single malt whiskey from the Isle of Skye, distilled in 1978 and bottled after 40 years of aging. It is the first release in the prestigious Bodega Series, which combines the character of the Talisker distillery with the long tradition of Spanish sherry casks.
This edition was released in 2018 in a limited series of just 2,000 bottles worldwide. The whisky was initially aged in used American oak casks and acquired its final character during its final maturation in five hand-selected casks that had previously held Amontillado sherry from the traditional winery Delgado Zuleta in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. These casks previously held sherry over 40 years old, which imparted additional notes of dried fruit, nuts, and an elegant dryness to the whiskey.
Tasting Profile:
Color: Rich gold.
Aroma: Pears in syrup, orange peel, sandalwood, a hint of saltiness, and subtle smoke.
Taste: Full-bodied and oily, with notes of white grapes, sultanas, saltiness, pepper, and a hint of smoke.
Finish: Long and warm, with nutty and spicy notes and a subtle hint of Amontillado sherry.
The aroma combines rich fruitiness with notes of pears in syrup, orange peel, sandalwood, sea salt, and subtle smoke. The palate is oily, full-bodied, and complex, with notes of white grapes, sultanas, salty notes, pepper, and Talisker’s characteristic smokiness. The long finish brings warm spices, nuts, and a subtle hint of sherry.
Limited edition of 2,000 bottles:
Talisker 40 Year Old The Bodega Series No. 1 was created as the first installment in a series that focuses on the exceptional combination of Talisker’s old stocks with historic sherry casks. For this edition, only five casks of very old Amontillado sherry were used, with total production limited to 2,000 bottles.
Each bottle is thus an exceptionally rare collector’s item that combines forty years of aging, Talisker’s traditional character, and the influence of one of Spain’s oldest sherry producers.
Talisker 40 Year Old The Bodega Series No. 1 comes in a luxurious wooden box inspired by the architecture of traditional sherry bodegas in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. The bottle itself is adorned with details referencing the year of distillation, 1978, its 40-year age, and the origin of the Bodega Series.
