Product description

Royal Salute 50 Year Old Coronation Cask is one of the rarest editions in the history of Royal Salute. This extraordinary 50-year-old blended Scotch whisky was released in 2003 in just 255 numbered bottles to mark the 50th anniversary of the Royal Salute brand and the 50th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation.

The whisky was crafted from stocks dating back to 1953. Each whisky used in the final blend was aged in oak barrels for at least 50 years. The result is an exceptionally mature, deep, and complex blend in which the long aging does not result in excessive woodiness, but rather a surprisingly harmonious combination of fruit, floral notes, nuts, oak, and a subtle smokiness.

Tasting Profile:

Nose: Rich and sweetly fruity, balanced by deeper floral and oak notes. A subtle smokiness and nutty character emerge in the background.

Taste: Full-bodied and luxuriously layered. Sweet floral and fruity notes are complemented by raisins, smoky sweetness, and nutty oak. Despite its extraordinary age, the whiskey feels harmonious and well-balanced.

Finish: Deep and long, with warm, sweet fruitiness and a dry, smoky aftertaste.

Limited to 255 bottles:

Royal Salute was created in 1953 to honor the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Exactly fifty years later, this extraordinary anniversary edition was created. The Duke of Argyll presented the first bottle of Royal Salute 50 Year Old to Sir Edmund Hillary, who, in 1953, along with Tenzing Norgay, became the first person to verifiably reach the summit of Mount Everest.

The uniqueness of this entire edition is also well illustrated by another part of its history. In 2006, Chivas Brothers purchased bottle number 1 from Sir Edmund Hillary for $30,000, with the proceeds going to his charity, the Himalayan Trust.

An Exceptional Porcelain Decanter:

The whiskey itself is only one part of this collector’s edition. Royal Salute 50 Year Old Coronation Cask was bottled in a distinctive blue porcelain decanter, whose crest is crafted from sterling silver and 24-karat gold. The edition was presented in a prestigious wooden case.

About the Royal Salute Brand:

Royal Salute is a prominent Scotch whisky brand founded to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. The brand name, derived from the traditional 21-gun salute, reflects deep royal traditions and the solemnity of the occasion. This salute symbolizes the respect and favor that the brand expresses through its unique product.

Royal Salute whisky is produced at the Strathisla Distillery, the oldest continuously operating distillery in the Scottish Highlands. This historic setting lends Royal Salute whisky an authenticity and depth that can be savored in every sip.

As part of the Pernod Ricard group, Royal Salute maintains its status as a symbol of luxury, inextricably linked to royal milestones and significant celebrations. The brand is often called the “king of whiskeys” thanks to its unmatched quality and elegant presentation.
