Karukera VO Vieux is an aged agricole rum from Guadeloupe that combines the authentic character of sugarcane, tropical aging, and the elegant influence of French oak. This aged rum is perfect for sipping on its own or in the traditional ti’ punch vieux cocktail.
Aging:
Tropical aging takes place in old 350-liter French oak barrels that previously held cognac. This gives the rum a smoother, more complex, and spicier profile without losing the typical liveliness of agricole rum.
Tasting Profile:
Aroma: Rich, with a spicy opening of nutmeg and cinnamon. It gradually transitions into subtle notes of cocoa and roasted nuts.
Taste: Full-bodied, smooth, and well-balanced, with a beautiful finish and a mature character from aging in French oak.
Finish: Spicy, warming, and long.
Serving:
It is recommended to drink it neat, ideally in a tasting glass, where its spicy and nutty-cocoa notes can gradually unfold. It is also excellent in a Ti’ Punch Vieux cocktail, where it provides a more pronounced and mature rum base.
About the Karukera Brand:
Karukera is a rum brand from Guadeloupe that focuses on producing rums with a distinct sugarcane character and authentic island origins. The name Karukera refers to the original name of Guadeloupe, often interpreted as “island of beautiful waters.” The brand is primarily associated with the agricole style, meaning rums produced from fresh sugarcane juice rather than molasses.
Karukera rums are prized for their aromatic richness, vibrancy, and ability to blend a fresh cane base with a deeper profile gained through aging in oak barrels. The brand’s lineup includes both younger rums suitable for cocktails and aged and limited-edition releases intended for slow sipping.
