Karukera Vieux Hors d'Age Cuvée is an exceptional aged rum from Guadeloupe, created by delicately blending the distillery’s finest rums without specifying an age. This cuvée embodies the richness, complexity, and distinctive style of Karukera rums, in which the character of sugarcane is intertwined with tropical aging and elegant oak influence.
Aging:
The rum was aged in a tropical climate in French oak barrels. It is precisely this tropical aging that accelerates the development of aromas and gives the rum depth, intensity, and a mature character.
Tasting Profile:
Nose: Pleasantly medicinal and intoxicating. Initial notes of tiger balm, benzoin, and camphor gradually give way to mirabelle plums, guava, and exotic fruits. A subtle note of artichoke heart emerges in the background.
Taste: Firm, lively, and complex. It builds on the aromatic profile of the nose and adds herbal notes of cut hay, citrus peel, plums, a mineral line, and notes of white flowers, particularly lily of the valley and lilac.
Finish: Long, fresh, and multi-layered. Red fruits, raspberries, and strawberries intertwine with coconut, sugarcane, subtle woodiness, pine, and cedar. The finish is slightly medicinal, balsamic, and mildly salty.
Serving:
Karukera Vieux Hors d'Age Cuvée is best enjoyed slowly—it is recommended to let the rum rest in the glass for a moment after pouring, ideally covering it lightly so that the aroma is released gradually and the rum is not over-aerated.
Karukera Vieux Hors d'Âge Cuvée is a rum for connoisseurs seeking a more distinctive, layered, and unconventional aromatic profile.
About the Karukera Brand:
Karukera is a rum brand from Guadeloupe that focuses on producing rums with a distinct sugarcane character and authentic island origins. The name Karukera refers to the original name of Guadeloupe, often interpreted as “island of beautiful waters.” The brand is primarily associated with the agricole style, meaning rums produced from fresh sugarcane juice rather than molasses.
Karukera rums are prized for their aromatic richness, vibrancy, and ability to blend a fresh cane base with a deeper profile gained through aging in oak barrels. The brand’s lineup includes both younger rums suitable for cocktails and aged and limited-edition releases intended for slow sipping.
