Tomatin 1977 is an exceptionally rare single malt Scotch whisky from the prestigious Warehouse 6 Collection, intended primarily for connoisseurs, collectors, and lovers of long-aged whiskies. It was distilled in 1977 and, after 42 years of aging, was bottled in 2019.
The whisky comes from cask number 38863, which was filled on September 27, 1977, and stored in Warehouse 6 throughout that time. It matured in a carefully selected Sauternes wine hogshead cask, which imparted rich fruitiness, sweetness, and a complex oak character. Bottling took place on September 30, 2019.
A total of only 295 bottles were produced, with the bottle offered here bearing the number 225. Thanks to this low number of bottles, it is an exceptionally collectible edition with a clearly documented provenance.
Tasting Profile:
Color: Brilliant, reminiscent of golden mahogany.
Aroma: Delicious and sweet, reminiscent of a nutty-fruity cake with a honey crumble topping. Complemented by a subtly dry and spicy oak note.
Taste: Glazed cherries, the sweetness of baked cakes, and mature, spicy oak with notes of a cigar box. Rich, harmonious, and exceptionally complex.
Finish: Cocoa, vanilla, and fudge gradually give way to a drier, long finish.
Long maturation has created a layered profile that intertwines sweet fruit, honey, nuts, cherries, spicy oak, cocoa, vanilla, and fudge. The Sauternes cask imparts a delicate dessert note to the whisky and helps balance the dry, mature woodiness.
Serving:
Tomatin 1977 is best enjoyed slowly, neat. A few drops of water may help open up additional layers of aroma, but given its age and complexity, it is advisable to approach this whisky with great care.
Luxury Collector’s Packaging:
The whisky is housed in a hand-blown Glencairn Crystal decanter and comes in a luxury case with an original opening mechanism. This is activated by pressing two rose-gold-toned metal buttons on the sides.
The set also includes glasses adorned with solid copper bands, a solid copper stopper from Scottish Silver, and a numbered certificate detailing the history of the specific whisky. The ensemble is complemented by an elegant case with stitched and embossed details.
Tomatin 1977 is an exceptional whisky with an exceptionally long maturation period, a very limited number of bottles, and luxurious collector’s packaging. It is a bottle intended for true connoisseurs, collectors, and lovers of rare single malt whiskies.
