Tamnavulin Oloroso Cask is a smooth single malt Scotch whisky from Speyside, created exclusively for the Global Travel Retail network. It builds on the distinctive style of the Tamnavulin distillery, which combines sweetness, fruitiness, and a smooth palate.
Production:
The whisky first matures in American bourbon casks, which impart a vanilla-like smoothness and a rounded character. It then matures in Oloroso sherry casks. This second phase of maturation enriches the whisky with notes of dried fruit, spices, sweet pastries, and candied orange peel.
Tasting Profile:
Color: Amber-gold.
Nose: Brown sugar, ginger cookies, cinnamon rolls, raspberry jam, and a hint of toasted malt.
Palate: Sweet pastries, honeycomb, and Christmas cake complemented by dried apricots, citrus peel, and vanilla bean.
The aroma blends brown sugar with ginger cookies, cinnamon rolls, and raspberry jam. A subtle note of roasted malt hints at the whiskey’s origins and balances its sweeter, dessert-like character.
The palate continues with notes of sweet pastries, honeycomb, and Christmas fruitcake. Dried apricots and citrus zest bring a fruity freshness, while the vanilla bean underscores the smoothness gained from aging in bourbon casks.
Serving:
Tamnavulin Oloroso Cask is best enjoyed neat, with a few drops of water, or on the rocks. Thanks to its one-liter bottle and gift packaging, it also makes an ideal gift for lovers of smoother sherry-style whiskies.
About the Tamnavulin Distillery:
Tamnavulin Distillery is a Scottish distillery founded in 1966 in the small village of Tomnavoulin in the Speyside region. Its name comes from Gaelic and means “mill on the hill,” a reference to the historic mill that once stood on the distillery’s site.
The distillery was built during a period of growing demand for Scotch whisky, and its spirits were primarily used in blended whiskies for a long time. Production was suspended in 1995, but the distillery reopened in 2007 and gradually began to focus more significantly on its own single malt whiskies.
Today, the distillery is owned by Whyte & Mackay and represents an accessible and modern take on Speyside whisky.
