It was distilled in 1990 and matured for thirty long years in a single bourbon hogshead cask No. 25971, from which it was bottled in 2020 at a natural cask strength of 50.9%.

Only 148 individually numbered bottles were produced, making this whiskey an exceptionally rare collector’s item. The long maturation in a single cask allowed the spirit to develop a complex character while retaining the typical elegance and refinement for which The Macallan distillery is renowned. The Macallan Distillers Ltd.

The Macallan Distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, originally a teacher and barley grower, who had leased land in Easter Elchies as early as 1819. The Macallan was among the first Scottish distilleries to receive an official license and has gradually built a reputation as one of the most prestigious single malt whisky brands in the world.

From the very beginning, its character has been shaped by three key influences—Scotland, Spain, and North America. It is precisely this emphasis on the selection of raw materials—and above all, on maturation in carefully selected sherry casks from Spain—that has become one of the cornerstones of this iconic brand’s style. The merchant Roderick Kemp also played a significant role; he purchased the distillery in 1892 and cemented its long-standing association with sherry casks.

A barrel from 1926 became a legendary milestone; after sixty years, it was bottled as The Macallan 1926 60 Years Old—one of the most sought-after whiskies of its time.
