A TASTE OF THE FUTURE

This whisky was created during the revival and regeneration of the Ardbeg distillery and brand. Twenty-three year old Ardbeg Vintage_Y2K perfectly captures the optimism and enthusiasm that accompanied this momentous year. The rare spirit from the turn of the millennium is characterised by fresh, citrus notes, intense sweetness, yet still a typical smokiness. When tasted, it surprises with its sparkling liveliness.

COLOUR: Light amber

NOSE: Herbal and sweet, with subtle hints of smoke. Fresh notes of lemon balm, linseed oil and candied walnuts appear. The aroma intensifies with the addition of water, revealing aromas of heather honey and a light tar.

TASTE: The texture of the whisky evokes a fine bubbling sensation evoking effervescent powder. A pleasant sparkle runs across the tongue. Initially, the taste is intensely sweet, gradually revealing notes of anise, caramel, malt biscuits, mint, ground coffee and tar.

FINISH: The sooty flavour intensifies until it finally develops into a lingering aftertaste.

The year 2000 was a very good year for Ardbeg . In fact, you could say it was exceptional. What was so significant about this particular date? Since 1997, when the Ardbeg brand was bought by the Glenmorangie Company, the distillery had been undergoing a refurbishment and replacement of all equipment. After three years of renovation - in the year of the millennium - it was a new era for Ardbeg.

The year 2000 became a milestone during which Ardbeg fired up its new rocket engines, set itself on an upward trajectory and never looked back.

  • The Ardbeg Committee, a community of whisky fans, was born, and Shortie the dog was introduced as the brand's new mascot.
  • The Whisky Creation Team came up with a new generation of handcrafted casks.
  • The last pieces were distilled on the original historic apparatus before it was decommissioned after 51 years.
