Glenmorangie The Altus 25Y is an exceptional whisky born of 25 years of patience, decades of experience, and a bold spirit of experimentation. The name The Altus derives from the Latin word for “high” and refers to the spirit sourced from Glenmorangie’s highest Scottish stills. The result is a silky, opulent, and refined whisky that combines the distillery’s classic elegance with a richer and more deeply layered profile.
Characteristics:
The whisky matures in specially designed Glenmorangie bourbon casks, and its character is further enriched by the addition of whisky matured in Malmsey Madeira wine casks. This blend pays homage to the distillery’s historic Madeira Wood Finish from 1995. As a result, The Altus is rich, smooth, and very harmonious, with a beautiful blend of fruitiness, floral notes, and a sweet, polished oak finish.
Tasting Profile:
Nose: Carnation, rose, orange blossom, honey, peach, vanilla, almond, nutty caramel.
Palate: Mandarin, apple, pear, peach, gooseberry, yellow plum, buttery sweetness.
Finish: Long, harmonious, and elegantly sweet.
Glenmorangie The Altus 25Y is a whisky for moments when you want to reach for a truly mature and refined single malt. It offers a silky texture, rich aromas, and a long, elegant finish that reflects its age and exceptional status within the Glenmorangie portfolio.
Fun fact:
Actor Harrison Ford was among the first to taste The Altus during the filming of Once Upon a Time in Scotland.
Packaging: FSC-certified, fully recyclable gift box
About Glenmorangie Distillery:
The story of Glenmorangie begins in 1843, when farmer William Matheson and his wife Anne built a distillery in the Scottish Highlands in Ross-shire. At the time, he may have sold his whisky for just a shilling a gallon, but his vision was far-reaching. The whisky was named after the peaceful landscape he loved – Glenmorangie, which means "Valley of Peace" in Gaelic.
Matheson laid the foundations for what became one of the world's most famous and respected single malt whisky distilleries. For many years, it was led by Gordon L. Smart, distillery manager since 1920, and the legendary "16 men of Tain," who handcrafted whisky using time-honored methods.
Today, the distillery is run by Edward Thomas, winner of the Global Distillery Manager of the Year 2022 award at the Whisky Magazine Icons of Whisky Awards. Glenmorangie still employs 24 "Distillers of Tain" who continue the craftsmanship of previous generations.
A distinctive feature of Glenmorangie are the tallest stills in Scotland, as tall as a giraffe. It is thanks to this height that the distillate has more space to develop the delicate, fruity and elegant flavors that are typical of Glenmorangie.
The giraffe has thus become not only a symbol of the distillery, but also a symbol of responsibility. In 2020, Glenmorangie partnered with the Giraffe Conservation Foundation and the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland to help protect these endangered animals in the wild.
