Ballantine's Sweet Blend is a sweet version of the iconic Scotch whisky, created as a spirit drink with a lower alcohol content. It combines the typical balance of Ballantine's with natural notes of caramel and vanilla. The result is a smooth, easy-to-drink whisky with a sinfully sweet character, ideal even for those who are just starting out with whisky.
Characteristics:
In the glass, it has a warm amber-gold color. The aroma is rich and enticing, with notes of hazelnuts, vanilla pods, butter caramel, and caramelized apple. The taste is creamy and dessert-like, reminiscent of milk chocolate, crème brûlée, vanilla fudge, and malt cookies. The finish is silky, full, and long, with notes of fudge and vanilla.
Tasting profile:
Color: Warm amber gold.
Aroma: Hazelnuts, vanilla, butter caramel, caramelized apple.
Taste: Milk chocolate, crème brûlée, vanilla fudge, malt biscuits.
Finish: Sweet, silky, with notes of fudge and vanilla.
Recommended serving:
For a fresh and balanced drink, mix 50 ml of Ballantine's Sweet Blend with 150 ml of ginger beer and garnish with a slice of lime. A great solution for a light whiskey cocktail with a distinctive sweet line.
Ballantine's history:
Ballantine's, a Scottish whisky brand, was founded in 1827 by George Ballantine, originally a greengrocer. George opened his first grocery store in Edinburgh and gradually specialised in maturing quality, hand-selected malt whiskies. In 1857 he expanded his store to meet the growing demand for his products and in 1881 began exporting his blended whisky to world markets.
After his retirement, his sons took over the business. Ballantine's was awarded a Quality Recognition from Queen Victoria in 1895, a significant milestone, and over the years the company continued to innovate, including the launch of Ballantine's Finest in 1910 and the development of the iconic square bottle during Prohibition for easier concealment.
In 1937, master blender George Robertson joined the team to create the world's first 17-year-old Scotch whisky and the prestigious Ballantine's 30. The company acquired a heraldic emblem in 1938, which includes the Latin phrase "Amicus Humani Generis" (Friend of all mankind).
Ballantine's continues to celebrate its history and continues to innovate, as evidenced by its 2014 partnership with the Boiler Room Music Project to promote real music and whiskey.
