Product description

Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1991 is an exceptional single malt whisky from the exclusive Bond House No. 1 collection, showcasing Glenmorangie’s elegant mastery of time, contrast, and cask maturation. This whisky has been aged for 26 years and was created by blending two distinct distillates from 1991 that would likely never have been combined under normal circumstances. Yet that is precisely where its magic lies—in the unlikely harmony that brings softness, depth, and a rich, fruity character.

Characteristics:

Both parts of the whisky were first aged for a long time in bourbon casks. Then one of them was finished for more than 10 years in Oloroso sherry casks, which imparted sweetness and spiciness, while the other part spent the same amount of time in Burgundy wine casks, from which it acquired a more earthy and subtly truffle-like character. Finally, these contrasting components were unified with a subtle touch of whisky aged in new charred oak, resulting in an exceptionally layered yet very smooth whisky.

Tasting Profile:

Nose: Apricots, plums, baked apples, truffles, chocolate.

Palate: Fruit, cherries, raspberries, spices, milk chocolate.

Finish: Smooth, deep, and harmonious.

Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1991 is a whisky for lovers of mature, elegant, and unusually structured single malts. It offers fruity depth, subtle spices, chocolate notes, and the refined smoothness typical of Glenmorangie.

About Glenmorangie Distillery:

The story of Glenmorangie begins in 1843, when farmer William Matheson and his wife Anne built a distillery in the Scottish Highlands in Ross-shire. At the time, he may have sold his whisky for just a shilling a gallon, but his vision was far-reaching. The whisky was named after the peaceful landscape he loved – Glenmorangie, which means "Valley of Peace" in Gaelic.

Matheson laid the foundations for what became one of the world's most famous and respected single malt whisky distilleries. For many years, it was led by Gordon L. Smart, distillery manager since 1920, and the legendary "16 men of Tain," who handcrafted whisky using time-honored methods.

Today, the distillery is run by Edward Thomas, winner of the Global Distillery Manager of the Year 2022 award at the Whisky Magazine Icons of Whisky Awards. Glenmorangie still employs 24 "Distillers of Tain" who continue the craftsmanship of previous generations.

A distinctive feature of Glenmorangie are the tallest stills in Scotland, as tall as a giraffe. It is thanks to this height that the distillate has more space to develop the delicate, fruity and elegant flavors that are typical of Glenmorangie.

The giraffe has thus become not only a symbol of the distillery, but also a symbol of responsibility. In 2020, Glenmorangie partnered with the Giraffe Conservation Foundation and the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland to help protect these endangered animals in the wild.
