Product description

Ardbeg Twenty Something 22 Years Old is an exceptional whisky that commemorates one of the most difficult chapters in the history of the Ardbeg distillery. In the late 1990s, following a series of closures and reopenings, the distillery was in a precarious state, but it was precisely then that the spirit that would later become this rare edition was aging in its warehouses. It was initially intended exclusively for members of the Ardbeg Committee, but later became available to other whisky lovers as a reminder of a time when Ardbeg’s future hung in the balance.

Characteristics:

The whisky was distilled in the spring of 1996 and bottled on July 1, 2018. It matured for 22 years in bourbon casks, which gave it an elegant structure and allowed its aromatic depth to develop beautifully. The result is a whisky that combines a softer, more mature tone with Ardbeg’s typical peaty and smoky style.

Tasting Profile:

Nose: Fresh green apples, vanilla caramel, anise, peat, and smoke

Palate: An elegant blend of fruitiness, vanilla sweetness, and Ardbeg’s signature smoky character.

Ardbeg Twenty Something 22 Years Old is a rare and collectible edition that will appeal to anyone seeking an older Ardbeg with historical significance. It is a whisky with a story, combining the elegance of bourbon cask maturation with the distillery’s characteristic peaty soul.

About the Ardbeg distillery:

Founded in 1815 by John Macdougal, Ardbeg has a rich history dating back to the time when Celtic monks sought refuge on the island from raids by the Norse. The island of Islay, characterized by wild nature and untamed shores, offers ideal conditions for producing unique whisky—an abundance of soft water, fertile soil, and peat, which gives the local whisky its distinctive profile.

Ardbeg is not only the name of the distillery, but a symbol of tradition, quality, and an unshakable spirit that has defined the Scottish island of Islay for more than two centuries. Recognized worldwide for its uniqueness and awarded many times at prestigious competitions, Ardbeg stands at the forefront of whisky production and is considered one of the finest whiskies in the world.

In 2021, a unique cask from 1975 was sold for a record £16 million, marking an extraordinary milestone in the distillery's history. In keeping with the distillery's tradition of social responsibility and heritage, £1 million of the proceeds were donated to community projects on the island of Islay, underscoring Ardbeg's commitment to its community.
