Dictador Jerarquía Fino 1991 is a rare Colombian rum sourced from a private family collection of old barrels, which the Parra family has tended for generations. The Jerarquía collection features a selection of exceptional vintage rums, each of which has developed its own character and unique flavor profile during its long aging process.
Production:
The rum was produced in the heart of Colombia at a distillery that is now closed. Its origin, age, and limited availability give it a distinct collector’s appeal. The name Jerarquía, Spanish for “hierarchy,” refers to the status of these barrels within the family collection as well as the patience with which they were preserved.
The rums in the Jerarquía collection were aged in selected American oak barrels and in barrels previously used for sherry or port wine. The Fino 1991 variant offers a complex combination of fruit, spices, tea, nuts, and deeper cocoa notes.
Tasting Profile:
Nose: Raspberry leaves and black currants complemented by stone fruits, ginger, crushed black pepper, and notes of aged leather.
Palate: Plums, figs, and red apples transitioning into subtle spices and black tea. These are complemented by an Angostura-style orange bitterness and notes of walnuts.
Finish: Deep and layered, with notes of gingerbread, guava, and cocoa.
The aroma first reveals raspberry leaves and black currants, complemented by stone fruits, ginger, and freshly crushed black pepper. A subtle leather note adds maturity and depth to the aromatic profile.
The palate features plums, figs, and red apples, followed by delicate spices, black tea, and a bittersweet orange note reminiscent of Angostura bitters. The experience is rounded out by walnuts and a long finish featuring gingerbread, guava, and cocoa.
Recommended serving:
Neat at room temperature, or with a few drops of water.
About the Dictador brand:
Dictador was born in Colombia, a country famous not only for its coffee but also for its ideal climate for rum maturation. The result is a rum that appeals to collectors, lovers of rare editions, and lovers of sophisticated flavors.
The Dictador brand draws inspiration from Sever Arangoy, nicknamed "El Dictador," a Spanish official who oversaw the rum trade in Cartagena de Indias, the commercial center of the Spanish colonial empire in the 18th century. The brand is named after him, and this is where the story of Dictador as a rum with authority began.
The modern era of Dictador began in 1913, when the family business of the same name was officially founded. Since then, Dictador rum has been produced with an emphasis on precision, craftsmanship, and long aging, now led by renowned master blender Hernan Parra, who is the third generation of the Parra rum family.
