It was founded in 1898, but has been enjoying its golden age since 1993, when it was bought by the Urquhart family, famous tasters and visionaries from Gordon & MacPhail.

The distillery's goal was to revive the traditional, delicately peaty Speyside style, which originated historically when peat was used to dry malt during times of coal shortages.
